Visting Toronto

Welcome!

We are so excited to welcome folks to Toronto and hope you'll take the opportunity to eat, drink, and play in the city we love and feel lucky to call home. Below are some suggestions we've put together to make your time in Toronto memorable!

Please note that since we live in the Junction Triangle and firmly believe that "West End is the Best End" so nearly all of the recommendations below are for the west end of Toronto with some options for downtown. There are some lovely spots in midtown and the east end. If you plan to be in that area, please reach out and we will give you some recommendations (begrudgingly).

Fancy and Fancy-ish Eats

Honest Weight, an amazing seafood spot in the Junction - get the honest burger! $$

Aloette, an upscale dinner downtown, we ordered from them the night we got engaged. $$

Yasu, Omakase sushi bar, we sold furniture to eat here once.$$$

Canoe, we recommend checking out this spot if you'd like a lovely view of the Toronto skyline. You can also go and enjoy a cocktail at their bar. $$$

Queztel, upscale Mexican cuisine, recently got a Michelin star. $$$

Enoteca Sociale, our favourite Italian place! Never disappoints. $$

Edulis, a Toronto staple - featured in the Anthony Bordain episode about Toronto. Sign up for their waitlist to get a reservation. The meal is also 3 plus hours long so go with people you love! $$$

La Bartola, plant based high end Mexican dinning. Great cocktails, and such friendly service. Get the margarita flight! $$

BlueBlood Steakhouse, fancy steakhouse in Casa Loma. Sounds weird but get the caesar salad! $$$

Dreyfus, amazing French-ish spot in the Annex. $$

Cheap and Cheerful

Bar Neon, check out their buck a shuck and happy hour from 3pm to 5pm daily! $

The Commoner Roncey, a consistently great spot. Jovana celebrated her 30th here! $

Mapo Korean BBQ, amazing service and more food than you will know what to do with.$

Balam Toronto, we won't shut up about this place, an authentic Mexican spot. Family owned, delicious, and great value! This is more of a take out vibe. $

Oddseoul, fusion food and good vibes. $$

Fonda Balam, their birria en su caldo is the stuff of dreams. Amazing frozen marg too! $$

Seoul Shakers/Shakers Club, both are Korean fusion snack bars in Bloordale. Fun spot for some drinks and small plates. $$

Simpl Things, cocktail and snack bar in Parkdale, Italian menu during the day, neo Chinese snacks at night, great brunch on weekends. $$

Donna's, Our local. Such a great spot for lunch or dinner. Really great breakfast sandwiches and a really unique menu. $$

Dotties, Really great dinner. Great food and cocktails. Really nice bright space. $$

Coffee and Pastries

Outpost Coffee Rosters, they know their stuff! Great little coffee spot.

The Common, we recommend "the Common" - it's half latte, half cappuccino.

Martin Espresso Bar, this is our local!

Wallace Espresso, this is another local we love.

Propeller Coffee, if we've ever made a coffee for you...chances are the beans were from here.

Nofas Coffee Roasters, get their brookie, it's half brownie, half cookie.

Bars and Breweries

Hendersons, (Junction Triangle): This is the brewery we patron the most...seriously, Marge can walk herself here! They don't serve food but they will typically have another food vendor come in. Especially on Fridays. They also do a pretty fun trivia on Mondays and Oysters from Island Oysters on Wednesdays. Their patio is the parking lot and it's all around a great, easy going, casual time. We usually split a pitcher of Rush - it's 10/10.

Burdock (Bloordale): Very aesthetic brewery, lots of beer and wine options. Good food, great patio. Would recommend this if you're looking for a spot for drinks and a meal.

Blood Brothers (Geary): Brewery on Geary Ave (which is a great place to spend an afternoon/evening). Really great beers and a good spot to start/end a fun day on Geary.

Bandit Brewery (Roncesvalles): Another Brewery about a 5 minute walk from Hendersons so it's a good next spot. They serve food and wine so would recommend if you aren't all beer drinkers. They also have a cuteeeeee indoor/outdoor patio. Try the Juice Box IPA or Mr. Pink.

Collective Arts, (Little Portugal): Last brewery we promise!! Great beers and gin, our bar cart is typically stocked with one to two of their gins at all times. It's also in a really fun part of town so great spot to start/end a day.

Bathurst Local, (Little Portugal): Many fun karaoke nights were had here. Great little standard Toronto home turned wine bar with private karaoke rooms. What more could you need?

Paradise Grapevine, (Bloordale & Geary): Wine shop and winery, lots of really delicious wines and great patios at both locations. Geary is the winery and has a restaurant and Bloordale is more snack plates.

Famous Last Words, (Junction): Book themed cocktail bar. Really great cocktails in a really cute space.

Communist's. Daughter, (Little Portugal): A Toronto staple. Nothing fancy but a really fun vibe. Live music on Sundays.

Hole in the Wall, (Junction): Great little bar with amazing food. Recommend going their for their buck a shuck oysters or for brunch.

Cry Baby Gallery, (Little Portugal): Speakeasy. Art gallery in the front, cocktail bar in the back. Great spot to start/end a night.

Bar Raval, (Little Italy): Pretty famous Toronto tapas bar. Spanish tapas, great cocktails, and a really cool interior.

The Vatican Gift Shop, (Lesileville): Really fun bar in the east end. Great DJ on weekends. Go here if you are in your 30s and feel like dancing.

915 Dupont, (Dovercourt Village): Coffee shop by day, whiskey bar by night. They also do a chess tournament on Sundays.

Melrose on Adelaide, (Downtown) many after work drinks were had here! Check out their wine specials on Wednesdays!

Mrs. Robinson, (Little Italy): Fun record bar in little Italy. Great happy hour and fun spot to listen to some records.

The Hamptons (Little Italy): Beautiful bar. Amazing service and great cocktails. Close to Mrs. Robinson if you want to make a night out of it.

The Little Jerry (Little Italy): A hidden gem. A vinyl listening bar with a really reasonable tasting menu.

Grey Tiger, (Bloordale): This cocktail bar taught Jovana everything she knows about cocktail making! Actually! She's taken cocktail classes here...but little cocktail bar in Bloordale.

Comedy Bar (Bloordale): Great spot for a pint - catch a comedy show while you are here.
